    Description
?Well, the time has come to start selling my WWI uniform collection and the first item to be listed is an ORIGINAL, RARE and UNISSUED M1918 OD Flannel Shirt with the "oblong elbow patches".  I'm using the terminology used by the unparalleled WWI clothing expert "WWI Nerd", who has done a series of superb postings on the US Militaria Forum on uniform items from the turn of the century to WWI.  This shirt is described and depicted in his posting entitled "U.S. Army Shirts 1900-1919", dated May 14, 2014. I purchased this shirt on Sept. 30, 2001 at the first ASMIC convention I attended at Covington, KY, right after the 9/11 attack.  WWI Nerd describes the shirt in the posting, as follows:
    "
Common Traits of the 1918 Olive Drab Flannel Shirt with ?Oblong? Elbow Patches:
Made from 8 ½ ounce olive drab shirting flannel composed of 80% wool and 20% cotton.
Pullover style with a three button placket front.
    Rolling Collar.
One reinforced eyelet to accept the threaded post of a collar disc added to each collar point.
    Olive drab or brown buttons.
Two breast patch pockets with a straight (not curved) bottom.
Each pocket now has a separate pencil/pen pocket.
Each straight pocket flap is secured by a single button
Now with a rectangular shaped elbow patch on each sleeve.
The reinforced sleeve opening was reduced in size to accommodate the longer rectangular or oblong elbow patch."
This shirt has all of the features, including the grommeted collar holes for insertion of the screwback insignia used during WWI and the "oblong elbow pages", which replaced the oval ones.  The above period photographs show the shirt being worn with insignia and as pointed out by WWI nerd, the grommets permitted the collar to be worn over the Class A blouse collar while still inserting the insignia through both sets of holes!  The shirt's OD color is strong and is best seen in the non-flash images and close-ups.
The shirt is in NEAR MINT condition with the only blemish being a spot on the right hand chest pocket (See last image below) as viewed from the front, which may be removable by dry cleaning if desired, but is barely noticeable.  The shirt is so unused that it still has threads from the sewing still hanging out of the seams.  Best of all, it has the size tag still in the neck, the inspection tag is at the shirt tail and it is festooned with "cutter tags" on each section of the shirt that was sewn together!  The actual measurements of the shirt are as follows:  Neck 15"; Chest 24"; Sleeve Length 23.5"; and Overall 33.5".
Here's a rare opportunity for the advanced WWI uniform collector to obtain an increasingly rare shirt in pristine condition despite it's 100-year old age.  The buyer will have my usual unconditional guarantee of authenticity and a five (
not the 14-days that eBay inserts in my listings without my consent
    ) and a return/refund privilege, excluding postage.
